... that is not long a-doing."

Wherein I humbly beseech advice on the impending wooing of a Certain Lady. Here is your chance to opine on an age-old topic, and to be heeded and heard.

Ladies?

Melba?

Perhaps a romantic ballad is in order. To be on the safe side you should not be the one to deliver it ... those pesky dice,

Play up the fact that she is persuing you. She is a smart lady so feigned devotion won't get you anywhere.
"My mummy used to sing me to sleep at night. Run and catch, the lamb is caught in the blackberry patch ... She had the sweetest voice.
What will your mummy sing when they find your body?"

I think that playing up the attraction of her inheritance...err....independance is a key point.

on a side note...what do you think of flowers, cekiya?

I think daffodils would be very nice.

I agree, Kaelyn, that is one thing she wants to maintain. Show her attention but play a little hard to get. Mystery is always a good thing.

Yes, daffodils are nice, and since they are out of season, it would be a nice touch.

Cekiya, i agree that mystery is a good thing, but too much mystery and playing too hard to get is a bad thing. You don't want to have this relationship be too much work. As you are aware of; the rewards should outweigh the work.

Your intro to this relationship, along with the daffodils, is going to most likely be the sonnet. What theme do you have in mind, sappy, witty, gritty...

I didn't even think of that! How impressive would that be!!

True, the perfect balance must be struck between hard to get and not interested. Walkig a tight rope on that one.

perhaps Marvell could help ...

Had we but World enough, and time,
this coyness Lady were no crime.
We would sit down, and think which way
to walk, and pass our long Loves day.
Thou by the Indian Ganges side
Should'st Rubies find: I by the tide
of Humber would complain.
I would Love you ten years before the Flood:
And you should, if you please, refuse,
till the Conversation of the jews
My vegetable love should grow slow.
An hundred years should go to praise ...

Sultry you say ... perhaps some thing from Sappho then ... Roses In The Night, or even Lykas, I believe there is a reference to daffodils

Wow, turn the topic to romance and the forum fairly thrums with busy activity

I am, ladies, your humble student; pray write on. Or,

Would to the gods it would please you some day
A ballad book before me for to lay
And teach me for to sing re, mi, fa, sol
And when I fail, bobbe me on the knoll

The pretty strawberry,
The columbine, the nepte,
The daffodil well set,
The proper violet ;
Ennewëd your colowre
Is like the daisy flower
After the Nuzyael shower ;
Star of the morrow gray,
The blossom on the spray,
The fresht flow'r of Peonay

OK let's take a step back and take stock in our plans so far:

Flowers ... check
Poetry ... check
Don Juanitude... in Ewen's capable ... uh ... hands :?

What about dinner? Galopea's Feast is out of the question, too manly an atmosphere. The Iron Bell would be more appropiate. Or maybe even the Gray House, for that home cooked cozy approach.

Or the Lady has been leading, let her keep leading. Can Ewen handle the woman being in the lead.

Oh, heaven help us...

I hope Ewen realizes that its going to take a little bribery to get the rest of us out of the house....

I think that he would most likely enjoy it at the very least...just think of his Dernyi teacher...

What about some sort of entertainment... perhaps Baris could be persuaded to leave his room for an encore performance...it's very important to have a floor show.

Well Ewen may want to handle his own floor show 8)

Any questions class?

Let's not forget a more tangible gift for the lady. I am sure she will want to see that Sir Ewen is not after her just for her money. A decorative object of art or jewlrey come to mind. The ballad or some kind of musical interlude provided would be nice, if it were Sir Ewen's own composition and were about the good lady it couldn't hurt (the idea of someone else playing it is also a good idea, your rolls are sometimes too hit or miss in this particular vein Sir Ewen).
