I think perhaps the significance of Slakka and the guard being treated differently is that neither were the targets of the three-mascle guy's actions. They were perhaps both innocent bystanders who got in the way. Of more interest might be why Jelesa was treated differently, emerging apparently unscathed from the encounter, sans mascles.
