Laenvan follows Ulaufs advice and equips himself with enough rations. Then he prepares his gear, strings his longbow and searches goes to one of the places that Ulauf has found when they made camp to take his post surveying of the best of his capabilities the camp and the sourroundings, one arrow laid on but string not drawn and a second already in hand to reload...

It is a clear night with a moon casting quite a bit of light. The camp site chosen is defensible, and cannot be "snuck up on" due to the rocky vantage point above the trail. The horn, while clear and waking all, is at least several hundred yards away and to the north.

Though the warband takes all possible precautions, and everyone is on edge for the rest of the watch, nothing happens.

After the intial 'scare' of the horn Ulauf will stay in his 'fighting' position. He will sit down and try to get as comfortable as possible wrapping his blanket around his shoulders trying to keep warm and doze off waiting for his turn on watch.

Ulauf remains in armour with his helmet by his side, with longbow and shield near at hand and his pack behind him to provide some comfort against the rocks.

As time comes to change the watch and still nothing has happened, Laenvan looses up a bit. He then unstrings his longbow to not overstrain him but keeps him ready. He then searches a place where he is covered from the most sites and sits down with the back against a rock. Unrolling a blanket from his pack against the cold he settles down, the longbow in his left hand and the string with two arrows in the right hand. He takes the helm off and fixes him at his girdle and throw also the coif back for better hearing. He then checks with closed eyes for the normal noise background befor he falls into the veterans sleep - a sleep from which he will raise fully alert the moment the background noise changes... a trick he has learned form his old longbow teacher.

Getting back to camp and hearing the advice from Ulauf and Igon, Dragoran grabs enough food for the journey and stows it in his pack. Seeing that the more able bodied men of the group have things in order, Dragoran lays down to grab what sleep he can before they move out.

The warband wakes well before dawn on the 14th, few feeling fully rested due to the excitement of the night. The sky is overcast, and the day still cold, although it's not clear if it will rain or not. Without a word, each man eats a cold breakfast - no one mentions the word fire. Just as the early light glimmers in the east, the group sets out.

Again it is slow going through the steep mountain pass. Everyone keeps one eye on the trail and the other on the slopes above. Even those whose martial prowess is less can still observe. But nothing is seen save for the expected small fauna of the mountians - birds of prey, the occasional small rodent, and other small creatures.

By noon, the warband has reached the foothills of the Jahl range. Ahead lie rolling hills and the trail proceeding to Leriel. A low mist hovers over the hills, reducing visibility to a few dozen feet.

"Damn mists.." mutters a weary Laenvan. "Clear of the mountains I hoped for a better view on our surroundings... but with that..." He spits between his feet and replacing his gear with a shoulder-shrug.

Ulauf will close up with the group trying to keep his companions in sight while he scans the path ahead....

The warband moves through the mists with deliberate caution. Sometimes, the slow, undulating fog seems to be breathing, as if the warband were within a vast living creature. The grayness of their surroundings lends to the otherworldly aspect of things. More than once, the group nearly loses sight of the trail in the denser parts of the mist. The afternoon stretches on and on.

By nightfall, the fog has not burned off, and the group must make camp. Ulauf notices a small spur of the mountain above the mists, not too far away.

Next?

Same as the night before... find a good spot for camp and hope nothing happens.
