Looking at Dragoran Jorst says "I know little of your 'talent' my friend, but if you say they may be of use to us in our coming quest then perhaps you should venture with us for now."

Turning to Igon, Jorst continues "What do you think, cousin?"

So, is there further planning or should I move on?

"Excuse me, my lord, brothers-in-arms, I was a bit absent-minded." Laenvan bows before his comrades. "It seems that Lady Fasha's smile had the power of Halea's over me..." He shakes his had to get rid of this strange cobwebs that seem to hinder his clear thinkinig... "So... where were we... Ah yes... a longbow. If you allow for our leave I will take Ulauf to the best longbowyer I know here in Tashal and on the way we will stop at one or the other clothier and send them here, so that they can take measure and we all my choose our fabric and colours."

Upon Lord Igon's approval Laenvan and Ulauf take their leave. The moment he is to pass the door, Laenvan stops and turns to the rest of the warband. "Ah yes, there is still something. Be careful which fabric and colours you choose. In Kaldor as in any other Kingdom there are certain rules, who is allowed what to wear. But the clothiers will advise you on this." In an apologetic gesture he shrugs his shoulders and then hurries off to catch up with Ulauf...

Laenvan and Ulauf set out to acquire a longbow on the morning of Savor 6. The task is easily accomplished, with Laenvan taking him to the shop of Cols of Asarn on Heru Road. There they acquire a longbow, two dozen shafts, and a number of bowstrings for 54d. Proceeding from there to several of the clothiers in and around Mangai Square, they learn that "housecalls" are not to be had except for long-established customers of either wealth or status (preferably both), or a substantial "good-faith" payment nearly amounting to the price of the clothing itself - £2 per person. Habor of Sarlis, the clothier most of the others recommended for court attire, did not seem to take the two warriors very seriously, but he did allow that he would take measurements in his shop.

The two return to the temple, having at all times kept a watch out for suspicious characters, but were unmolested save for the beggar or two who held out hand or bowl.

Ulauf returning with Laenvan says "Cousin, it appears that we are not of sufficient status to warrent a house visit. We will have to venture outside if we are to acquire these clothes. A Habor of Sarlis has agreed to 'take our measurements' if we go to his shop."

Laenvan - are you proposing going out of the temple or staying in? If the former, where did you have in mind?

I shall have to take much of the day to resolve personal matters. By now my family is no doubt wondering what became of me and perhaps I can send word to them from this great city.

I should also introduce myself to the local physickers, and perhaps gain endorsement on my credentials, if I ever hope to achieve master status in my guild. It might not be the wisest to practice medicine without local guild approval, in any event. I was informed that one Seperlyne of Kail is the guildmaster for all of Kaldor, and that he is located near the gate we came through. I shall go there first.
They say I am mad...they make a good case.

In the morning - the eighth - the warband assembles in the hall. Crilde, the cook, who has taken a liking to the visitors from the north, has prepared full, hearty fare. Eggs, fresh bread, three different kinds of cheese, fresh rashers of bacon, ham steaks, jams, honeys, and preserves and a strong autumn ale, spicy and filling. "We wouldn't want ya to catch yer deaths after that bathin' foolishness now," she says as she heads back towards the kitchen.

Afterwards, Jorst checks everyone's kit, and satisfied that everyone is armed with something - though nothing too obvious - he nods to Igon. The whole time, Horveal's youngest son Fahd, almost thirteen, watches in rapt attention. Laenvan gives him a little wave as the group leaves the temple grounds.

The city bustles at this hour and Ibuthine Way, which runs north/south and faces the temple, is no exception. Porters and carters hurry past, along with apprentices running errands, beggars to trip over, those coming from and going to the market, and all seeking to avoid the trench of mire running down the middle of the lane. Into this ordered frenzy step s the warband. Ulauf points to the south, and he and Laenvan lead the way.

The group passes the first well, and as they do, note once again the compound with a carved relief of a sundered claw above the gate. "Ilvirans," someone spits, and again, wonders how it is that a temple to the glory of the Gray Slayer can sit so close to one of the craven brooder. Next to the temple and adjacent to one of the city gates stands an inn, the sign of the Iron Bell. They note with interest four light foot guard the gate which stands open.

Further down, the warband passes another well, and a passably attractive young woman showing a fair amount of her wares offers to "service the lot of ye." Igon yells at her to be off, and the warband continues. Other than the prostitute, no one has taken much notice of them so far. Shortly after the well, Laenvan points to the right, and the group continues up Valdan Way until they come to a square of five points. On the corner nearest them, stands the shop of Habor of Sarlis.

As they approach, a man at arms exits the shop escorting a lady of quality. On his tunic, they can just make out a heraldic device - a field of blue with two gold dolphins hauriant combatant. It's small and offset to the upper left of his chest, marking him as a man in service. He wears a mail hauberk, steel halfhelm, and has a broadsword at his belt. He carries a package for the lady.

The warband enters the shop, a large vaguely triangular structure. The main room is large, but divided by a long counter which meet from the two walls at an angle. Behind it, in the the larger portion of the room, apprentices and journeymen sit at tables, sewing, hemming, cutting, measuring, and doing all the things necessary to turn cloth into clothing. Bolts of brightly colored bolts of cloth line one wall, and along another are cabinets full of threads, ribbons, button, clasps, and other sundries. The journeyman who spoke to Laenvan and Ulauf before comes out from behind the counter to greet them and ask what is their pleasure this day.

[GM: Based on Vagnar's post - done while I was called away from mine - hate that! - I'll assume that Vagnar is not present at the clothier. That's OK, since it's unlikely that he'll be going to court anyway. Can we get a similar decision on Dragoran?]

Noticing that the warband is leaving, presumably for the clothier, Dragoran makes haste to catch them.

Although they have only gone several paces down the road ahead of him, Dragoran is puffing hard.

Pulling up beside Jorst, he turns and in between gasps of air says "Too much time.... spent in study and.... definately not... enough excercise."

After regaining his breath, he exclaims that it is high time he bought new clothes. He has been travelling the known world in the same outift for many a year.

"Glad you could make it Dragoran. You will have time enough to catch your breath before we arrive at the clothiers."

Giving Dragoran the once over Jorst continues "You maybe right, those clothes of yours have seen the best days I think."

With a wry smile, Dragoran concedes that his attire is much less than any court should expect.

"But then again" Dragoran continues "I have not had that much in the way of royal engagements. Slopping through the countryside has turned me from a well dressed scholar to a bedraggled bum" He finishes with a small chuckle.

Idly scratching his head, Dragoran also adds "I wonder what the latest fashion will be?"

Ulauf leading the warband stops surveying the surrounds and it's inhabitants, turns back to Dragoran and says "It matters not, I have no intentions of dressing like some southron. We are Ivinians and should dress as such! Do you think we should pass ourselves off as southrons or should we represent that which we are?"

With a wink to Jorst, Ulauf turns and goes back to surveying his surrounds.

Jorst smiles at his brother "Leave it be Ulauf!" Turning back to Dragoran Josrst continues "Looking at our own clothes I doubt we would accepted into our own courts let alone that of these southrons."

Leaning in towards Dragoran Jorst whipers "I don't think my brother trusts your motives yet my friend. Let him be and he will come around in good time, although he is older, I think he lacks a knowledge in the ways of the world that you and I possess. Know that you have my trust. Igon to trusts you also I think. Laenvan and Ulauf are like peas in a pod sometimes let them both be for now."

Jorst turns to Igon and says "Forgive me if I am out of order I do not mean to speak for you cousin."

No offence taken cousin, and you are correct all the same.

As for our clothing, I'm sure that we can get something suitable for court and in the fashion of our people... it may cost us though.

Looking askance at Ulauf, Dragoran states "I meant no offence to thine good sense Ulauf, I was merely wondering what fashion was around at such time. Although I am Ivinian, I am also a scholar, so my fashion will be of a differing standard to your good self."

Flashing a smile to Jorst, "Thankyou for your kind words Jorst. I meant no disrespect to your brother, and my goals are inline with all your own. I wish to stop this King Arren as much as any of you, maybe more, since he gives all of us who practice our arts, an abominable reputation"

Dragoran claps Jorst on the shoulder and continues to walk on with the warband.

With that Jorst takes up a relaxing stance against the workbench...

The journeyman, a bit confused, replies, "The master is engaged. My name is Joch of Pek - I'm in charge of new customers. When you were here last, I understood you to be new customers. Am I wrong?"

Looking the journeyman over Jorst replies "Well Joch, we are indeed new customers as you rightly point out. We are in need of new clothes and your master has a fine reputation so that is why we are here."

Moving away from his place on the workbench Jorst moves closer to Joch and says "Each of us seek new attire, now, we are not after the fashions of your lands, we are after the cut of our cloth to be more that of our homeland, Orbaal. Do you think your master is able to fulfil our order?"

"Yes, tunic and hose, a little color trim. We'll make that red as a nod to this year's fashion in Tashal. Of course, each of you will want some detail, perhaps some embroidery. Will you be needing hats?"
