6th Kelen 720

The warband are awoken early in the morning as the locals go about preparing the hall for the coming the day.

The warband join the other Ivinians in a simple but filling breakfast.

Finishing their meal the warband remain inside the hall due to the showers falling and gather around to gossip with other locals.

During a break in the rain Kalyn, Raan, Kjarl and several of the other Ivinians notice a warboat rounding the eastern headland. Kjarl with his knowledge of shipbuilding picks out the lines of the warboat from Sherwyn. Meanwhile the others begin to sense danger until Kjarl reassures them that the boat is friendly.

The Ivinians begin to gather around the thran with Kurnd being summoned from the great hall. He is flanked by the young huscarl Maddin.

Those that have gathered among the thran watch as the warboat slides up the sand and a group of men disgorge from within. More than a dozen men move up the beach towards the thran while about the same number stay aboard the warboat. Among the warriors moving through the village at least 5 appear to be huscarls. The Jarin give these men a wide berth finding their way inside or making a hasty retreat from the advancing warriors.

As the warriors approach the outer thran the gates are opened to admit them they make their way towards the inner thran among their number the warband notice Yarrin the Chamberlain for Valhakar of Sherwyn this group are admitted into the great hall.

A few of the huscarls gather around Maddin and Atol and appear to be held in deep conversation. During the conversation Maddin can be seen to be shaking his head while Atol seems to be taking the conversation quite seriously.

After the conversation Atol returns to the warband and says “Those huscarls have just asked Maddin an I if we care to be taken into the fold of the Valhakar of Sherwyn, Maddin does not wish to, but I on the other hand see a chance to improve my station and I have accepted their offer. I will be returning with them to Sherwyn when they depart.”

There is a silence around the warband as each member takes in this information......

With a light rain beginning to fall several of the huscarls remain outside with the other boat crew and mingle with the Ivinians of Fornin. Several of the boats crew tell of a merchant travelling from Ivinia that told them that Ibaanvaal has commenced there invasion of Menglana again and have captured Froyaheim.

This new strikes the warband but they take solace in the fact that there home is many leagues away from the current fighting.

Several of the huscarls tell of a thran called Wurst that has all but been destroyed by the Jarin during the uprising and that most of the major habitations seem to have suffered little in the wake of the current fighting. From what they have now seen it appears that Fornin and Wurst bore the brunt of the Jarin attentions.

By midday and after an hour or so of swapping tales, news and gossip the visitors depart the great hall and return to their boat. Pushing it back out to sea and with sails unfurled return back eastward disappearing behind the headland.

Soon after Kurnd appears and speaks to the warband “Valhakar Sherwyn will be visiting our clanhouse during the Ibaangaard festivities. He intends to honour our clans for their role in ending the Jarin disturbance. The Jarin’s actions of late have left our pantries with little to offer in the way of a feast and I was hoping that with your skills you might be able to assist to make his Lordships visit memorable.”

The warband agree to assist in whatever way possible, so Raan sets his mind to catching fish, Kalyn gathers up utensils and bags to gather fruits of the forest and Anvil gathers together his hunting attire to set off to hunt game.

Raan spends the rest of the day gathering and repairing nets and line and finding a suitable place from which to fish from.

Kalyn having gathered several sacks to collect her find, assists her patients by doing her usual rounds to change dressings and the like while administering balms and salves to ease the pain and aid the healing.

Anvil is introduced to a young Jarin lad called Mallyn who armed with spear will assist Anvil during his hunt. There appears to be a level of distrust between the two males as they make their finale preparations for the hunt just before last light. Arranging with Mallyn to meet before dawn at the thran gate.

Kjarl spends the day taking it easy to avoid to much discomfort from his painful ribs. He assists where he can aiding the local Ivinians to rebuild their clanhouses by offering advice. His advice is quietly riduculed early on but once the Ivinians realise that he has some knowledge on the subject soon begin to listen and on the rare occassion follow his advice.

A thunderstorm brings work on the buildings to an early finish and as the sun sets over the thran with village life slowly returning to a semblance of normality.

The warband join the other Ivinians for the evening meal.

They settle in for the night and enjoy a restful night by the embers of the hearth fire with just a hint of breeze blowing in from the S the warband go to sleep.

7th Kelen 720

The thunderstorms continue all night. The days begins early for Anvil as he awakens before the rest of the warband, gathers his gear and meets Mallyn by the thran gates.

They quickly head west and spend the day searching for likely hunting areas and making camp.

Kalyn wanders through the woods and forests against the dripping rain falling from the thunderstorm until midday. Kalyn spends the better part of the day wandering through the woods to the north and east of the thran foraging for whatever the woods have to offer. She returns to thran later that day with 2 sacks full of a variety of fruits, herbs and other bounties from nature.

Raan returns to his fishing spot that he scouted out yesterday spends the day casting his net into the sea. The thunderstorms continue through the morning making his fishing uncomfortable but by days end he has bagged nearly 20lbs worth of fish and returns to the thran to gut and clean his kill. Ensuring that his bounty is taken to the kitchen to be prepared for the coming feast.

The thunderstorms puts a halt to the work until after midday when Kjarl again spends the day with the Ivinian timberwright adding his advice and skills where needed.

During the day between breaks in the weather the Jarin can be seen removing bodies from the village, the bodies appear quite lifeless and a small procession follows as the bodies are taken out into the woods and shortly thereafter the procession reappears less the lifeless body. A total of 3 funerals can be seen to take place today.

The warband in Fornin notice while they are there that Kurnd is busy perhaps with the preparations for the coming festivities. He is seen chatting with Charrin the older of the huscarls on numerous occassions and he has also been seen chatting with a lot of the older male members of the clan.

All but Anvil return to the thran that night and enjoy a quiet night by the hearth fire.

8th Kelen 720

Anvil again rises early with Mallyn and sets off to enjoy the hunt.

The day quickly warms up. The day is interspersed with the odd thunderstorm and rain shower.

By early morning he has returned to an area where game appeared to be in good supply and Anvil began casting for sign. He quickly picked up the sign of a deer less than an hour old.

Following this trail he quickly found his quarry, grazing in a small clearing about 100’ ahead. Approaching from downwind the deer was startled by the hunters approach, Anvil letting fly an arrow takes the deer in the flank but it makes good it escape. Giving chase the hunters soon loose sight of the trail and their quarry gets away.

The hunting party spends most of the morning casting for more sign but most of what they find is many hours old or not suitable game for his Valhakars feast.

By mid afternoon during a break in the storms, when things are looking like they will be going home empty handed Anvil comes across the sign of a deer not more than an hour old, following the trail Anvil soon gains on his quarry. Standing in a clearing not more than 100’ feet from him stands a deer of large proportions obviously a buck.

Signalling Mallyn to remain behind Anvil sneaks foward. Moving to around 50’ from his target Anvil lifts his bow and lets loose an arrow. The arrow strikes true taking the deer through the neck and the beast falls to the ground where he once stood.

The hunters quickly gut their kill and pack it ready to be taken back to the campsite for the night. Hauling the kill up into the trees during the night to prevent someone or something else stealing their hard fought for prize. They stand guard over a blazing fire during the night to ensure the safety of their kill.

Again Kalyn and Raan head off in search for more to garnish their Valhakars table. They return with a plentiful supply of fish, fruits, vegetables and other bounties from the local forests.

Kjarl again assists Narri with his repairs to the clan houses aiding him as necessary. His work is light as his injured ribs keep him from doing anything to strenous.

Another funeral procession like that of yesterday can be seen from the thran.

Kalyn on returning to the thran later that afternoon inspects her usual patients and finds most are recoverying well except for Turaas Junilden, his wound has become infected. Kalyn treats the infection as best she can and tells his wife that she has done all that she could and they will just have to wait and see how he recovers.

As usual the warband less Anvil gather in the great hall for the night enjoying a meal of smoked fish and pottage while washing it down with the local ales.

9th Kelen 720

The warband are awoken by the usual morning activities in the hall. The warband join the other Ivinians in breaking their morning fast.

As the warband leave the hall there is a fog surrounding the thran. This fog hangs around all day lifting slightly as the day wears on but never fully burning off.

Raan spends the morning repairing and returning the fishing nets to their owner. Then he returns to his catch as he finishes off preparing each fish. All up for the 2 days of fishing Raan has caught around 20lbs of cod, 11lbs of mackeral, 8lbs of salmon and 11lbs of eel. At the end of the day Raan is exhausted from his 2 days of fishing and then gutting and cleaningg his catch.

Kalyn has spent her time foraging through the woods, hedges and forests around the thran gathering all manner of fruit, herb and vegetable. She spends the morning sorting and preparing her catch also.

Kjarl again spends the day with Narri and a few of the other Ivinian men as they continue to rebuild the burnt out structures of their former homes.

By midday Turaas Junilden the village woodward has died of his wounds.

Down in the village the Jarin men can be seen to be doing the same, repairing houses, refitting doors, mending fences as well as tending fields in preparation for the harvest.

By mid afternoon the warboat from Sherwyn has arrived this time bearing Wemrys Sherwyn the new Valhakar for clan Sherwyn, his chamberlain, a priest of Sarajin and 8 of his huscarls. Huscarl Atol is among those attending the festivities.

Anvil and Mallyn spend the day carrying their kill back to Fornin arriving late in the afternoon, the recent rain, the fog and the weight of their kill has made their journey slow.

During the day Kurnd has approached each of the warband individually and said that he has spoken with huscarl Charrin and he has been informed of the previous Valhakar’s offer for work and his is willing to keep that offer and honour all previous work done for the clan prior to this new agreement.

Each of the warband accepts the new offer.

With Anvil safely returned to the thran and the warband together once again they join the rest of those assembled in the great hall for a small but fancy evening meal.

At the completion of the meal Wemrys Sherwyn bangs a tankard against the table and as all heads turn the hall quickly falls silent “To the valiant warriors of Fornin, you bore the brunt of the Jarin uprising. Our island is now safer thanks to your courage, our island will be more prosperous due to your feat of arms.” A stirring cheer rings out from within the hall. Wemrys continues “With your courage and your devotion to your Valhakar you stood against the Jarin and showed your loyalty to clan Sherwyn, your loyalty, your courage and your devotion to duty shall be rewarded.” The assembly roars out a cheer that should surely be heard all the way to Linon.

Turning towards Kurnd, Wemrys contines “It is with a glad heart that I say farewell to the Valhakar Ragan as he sits at Sarajin’s table in Taalegaard now. Your clan has spoken and elected you Kurnd Ragan as the new Valhakar of Fornin. This I accept as the right and true choice from your clan. Is there anyone that wishes to challenge this decision, let him speak now or forever remain silent!” the is a hush over the hall as no one challenges the new Valhakar of Fornin.

“I now call on Ashain Eagatta to offer his prays.”

A man not much more than 20 summers old stands his medium build and 72” stand him out among other men but his fair complexion, black hair and green eyes give away his obvious Jarin bloodline. His attractive features draws attention to him as he stands.

“Brothers, it is wise now that we take this time to celebrate both the life and death of those that have fallen during this uprising. For it is in both our lives and in our deaths that we will be remembered. You fought according to the Ljarl and showed mercy when mercy was due, you fought with courage when courage was due, you fought with honour when honour was due. It would have been easy for you to seek revenge for the death of your Valhakar and his brother but by your Valhakar’s word you were asked to show quarter and this you did. Sarajin was watching your action on that day and by your actions this battle we be remembered as a great and glorious victory. What price the victory without cost. It is in the death of your Valhakar and his brother that makes the victory all the more memorable.”

Picking up his tankard Ashain continues “Warriors of Fornin you will all take your place at Sarajin’s table for your actions on that day. May Sarajin continue to watch over us and guide us!” Lifting his tankard he drains its contents. Likewise all assembled lift their tankards and drain them empty.

Ashain takes his seat again and Valhakar of Sherwyn again speaks “I have found out that it was these Jarin who were responsible for the death of my brother and took it upon themselves to cause havoc amongst us while they thought our clan was leaderless.” The assembly remains quiet as Wemrys taking a mouthful of ale and swallowing continues.

It is not long before the noise increases and the festivities resume.

At the end of the meal the warband each recieve their share of the gifts offered by Wemrys Sherwyn. Each collecting gems, jewellery, weapons or pieces of armour or other items.

The meal winds down as Wemrys retires into the sleeping chambers of the great hall as each warriors finds a place to sleep. The warband due to the numbers find themselves sleeping in the stables for the night.

The warm night air makes this pleasant and they all enjoy a well earned rest.
