In the morning, the party decides to go looking for news of what is happening in the city and country (after the meeting with Obiris on Kelen 13). The party heads to the Bronze Anchor, a tavern in the Alienage. While there, we note that two men enter and look at the party for what we consider too long. Bevan decides to revisit Obiris of Ueld at the Temple of Save K’nor if she can. She is allowed through the gate, but Sir Arlen is not allowed by order of Sir Jerge Smeley, the Captain of the Guard. Bevan is eventually given an audience in the garden of the Temple after a long wait. She discovers nothing new about Morgan and finds she is unable to talk about what happened in the north concerning Lord Morgan. All she gets of importance is advice on Trilime, whom she lets Obiris know exists. He advises mental training as soon as possible or there will be trouble, that those of her line are very powerful Deryni. Bevan helps garden for awhile and then leaves, being informed she will not be allowed to come back because she works for Morgan. He also informs her that the party will not be allowed to leave for quite awhile from Cherafir.

Back aboard the ship, a note is delivered by what looks like an urchin that requests the party go to a place called the Thatcher’s Glove if we want help from trouble which is about to occur. It is decided for Sir Arlen and Bevan to go with others following. Bevan and Sir Arlen are led to the place by the urchin. The place is evidently a brothel along with being a tavern. We are met by a young man with brown hair and an aura of quiet confidence (that many Deryni have). He introduces himself as Krylis of Ancona and says that we work for the same man. He claims to have no instructions to help us but has decided to help anyway since we work for the same man. He said that he had expected someone with a message. He does not refer to Sir Arlen as “Sir”, very unusual, even other knights and King Darebor refer to him as “Sir”. He tells us we are under observation and that Arlen will be arrested in the morning for murder. He is willing to help hide him at the brothel using connections that he has. No one else is supposed to be detained but the registration of the ship is being held up in channels to prevent our leaving. Sir Arlen will have to partake of the pleasures of the house in order to go unnoticed according to Krylis. He decides to stay there.

In the morning, a squad arrives at the ship to arrest Sir Arlen and is not pleased to find out he is not there. No one else is taken but a guard is left on the wharf.

Imarë and Bevan decide to go into Cherafir so that the group is even more broken up in case of legal involvement and we see no one following us. We decide to spend the night at the Tobilon Inn off of Arabar Square. This seems to be a nice middle class place to hang out in. While there, Imarë meets a young man, Yellin of Tixena who is an apprentice jeweler at his mother’s shop. He is willing to shape Imarë’s emerald free in exchange for some companionship. Imarë decides that this is a good trade and spends the night with him.

It is found out here at the Tobilon that King Lodros is Morgan’s great-great grandfather, that Arren I is considered a son of a bitch, and that death and darkness follows his footsteps. I think he needs a better press agent. Darebor and Arren have a brother, Arabar, the Duke of Solora in Chyrefal. Arren was known as a cruel young man who “punished servants in their minds and left them with nothing”. It is considered lucky for Melderyn that he was a second son.

In the night, Sir Arlen is routed out of his room by the city guard. He goes out of the window naked and is chased over the roofs of the Alienage. He espies a guy peeing in the well, and a little kid finds him, but Arlen convinces him to go home wothout delay. He hides in a warehouse but has nothing. He finally sneaks back to his room and dresses after he ducks pursuit and then decided that surrender is the best route. He is taken to the castle by the city guard where he is informed by a knight he is under arrest for murder. The person he has murdered will be figured out later (excuse to arrest him and they want him to know this). In the room is Sir Jerge, who begins to interrogate him, but King Darebor, who is a carbon copy of Morgan (or visa versa) appears. He informs Sir Arlen (whom he refers to as “Sir Arlen”) that he (Sir Arlen) is a pawn in a game he does not know. After a conversation King Darebor decides to let Sir Arlen go. He advises him to tell his nephew, the King of Tharda, everything about what we have seen (Sir Arlen is able to talk about what happened up north and mention Morgan without the problems that Bevan had). He is invited back by Darebor.

When Sir Arlen arrives back at the ship, the registry is delivered by messenger.

Kelen 17-19, 730

Sir Arlen and Dwilith go to the Seamans guild to get a crew. We are now ready to leave (19 Kelen) – if Imarë’s emerald is finished that is.
