HONEYDIPPING FOR POUNDS

Larane 5-6, 730 TR

Sir Arlen departs for Menekai to take up his new position. Being in a party mood at this, we get information on Naveh’s cat. We find his name is Dekejis and was originally attached to Halea and is black with red eyes. Naveh stole the cat and blinded it and also castrated it. Because of this, Halea decided to cast the cat out. Naveh then took him in, telling him that he could devour as many eyes and testicles as it could and he (Naveh) would eventually return the parts taken. We also discuss that there is at least a monthly sacrifice from the Temple of Naveh and that it can be anybody but that they do not, as a ritual, do what was done to the cat.

We discuss what our mission is, finding out information about what is happening in the City of Golotha and, if possible, removing the nephew of the late (and unlamented) Revi Lenesque, Earl of Techen, evidently near the last of the line (we did meet a Lenesque when we visited Gelimo). No one knows anything about him, not even his name. We decide to take up Sir Tovar’s offer to barge up with him to the city and leave before it arrives in the city. We use the opportunity to ask Sir Tovar about Golotha. We find that only the keep itself is under Royal control and that the rest of the city is not patrolled at all by royal forces. We leave on Larane 6 and get as far as Techen. We visit the three taverns in the town looking for accommodations. We reject the Sword & Shield (Pathric of Nislon) because Sir Tovar stays there and we wish to disassociate ourselves with him. We reject the Raging Bull (Rebort of Nori) because it is a real dive with bad ale and only a common sleeping area. Ewen sings a beautiful song for the denizens. We do question people about Golotha and find that it is not a fun town and stinks to boot. It is a den of Morgathians and Agrikans. The Arena is splattered with blood (as I believe they all are). People live below the wharves and eat anybody stupid enough to go there. The Agrikans wield police power (evidently an old arrangement) but the Morgathians are in charge. We end up at a lovely little place called the Tongue and Pullet (Rhon of Jerema), food and wine excellent but we think the proprietor a misogynist.

Larane 7, 730 TR

In the late afternoon we arrive (by land) at the outskirts of Golotha. We get an Inn outside the city walls called the Smoking Meken (Adnan Harbis) and is in a former temple to Halea (hairdryer). Ardeth spots a woman reading a book in the bar (the last time this happened it turned out she was a follower of Lord Morgan and blasted his mind nearly killing him). He introduces himself to her anyway and it turns out she is the daughter of the innkeeper and is studying in Shostim to be a Shek Pvar. She says the King went through Shostim and took to ships for Orbaal (with a whole lot of troops). We find out that we are in Trevorman, which is a part of the city. We meet someone who we think is a con man named Tullus. We forward him two shillings in order to get his “package” out of the customs house and on its way to be sold (when we are due a profit). He claims to be in the employ of Jarop of Zarainsen, a chandler.

Ewen, looking for the current temple of Halea, is stopped by Agrikans guarding the gate to the island the temple is on. They say the temple is off limits. The guards have arms with a red shield and a gold sword (up and down), which is notched.

We find the city of Golotha is divided by canals. Bevan and Imarë go exploring and find the North and South Havens (wharves) which are the commercial districts of the city (and who supposedly have cannibals living beneath). From our observations the South Haven is more genteel and the NW is the better area and the walled enclave there is off limits.

Ewen finds a harper on Kalphor Wharf by the name of Nicola of Varianes. She is a merchant of music and instruments and does a little performing on her own. She says there is not a large population of performers in Golotha.

Ardeth finds the home of Argenoyus and stops in for a visit. While he cannot see him yet, he at least is acknowledged as the student of Theron Palliser. He has hopes of meeting with him shortly.

After paying for staying at the Smoking Meken until the 18th we go out looking for a more lively establishment to start questioning. We end up at the Silk Hat, a place which is run by a midget and a mute. The name of the midget is Mogger and he hits on Imarë. There is an assortment of thin whores who give a little information. We find out the name of the mute is Bloody Bhurt and he has no brains whatsoever and is always in the company of Mogger.

After spending the evening at the Silk Hat we head back to the Smoking Meken and discuss what our options are for completing our mission.
