We want the Funk/Give up the Funk

Peonu 11, 730

Olthays, the Peonian Ebesethe, wakes up our heroes, who crashed last night. Breakfast is served. Bevan is accompanied by an enormous wolfhound. She reads her father’s letter and is unimpressed. It’s in cipher. She doesn’t want to talk about Lord Morgan.

She’s leaving soon for Olokand, via Tashal (where she plans to cash the check and pick up a few things). That evening, the deer Bevan killed is served as a feast. Crow is highly respected here. The Peonians come and go, and provide some measure of civilization.

Bevan finally tells a little about Morgan. She met him months before the expedition the PCs know about. Rathbar’s company was investigating rumors that the Mining Guild had illegally opened a silver mine north of Shiran. The company infiltrated the camp, becoming guards. At that point the Gargun swarmed. The company escaped to the North, where they met Morgan and his men killing Gargun on a ridge. Morgan then went back to the mine and executed the survivors for their crimes. He knew the company was there for other purposes, so they were spared. At the time Bevan did not realize Morgan was Deryni. Morgan’s women were not around at this point.

The company left Morgan and returned to Coranan. Their employer said he didn’t know Morgan, and sent them back to investigate him. They went to Shiran and then to Firis, where they lost the trail. Later, in the territory of the Equani, they found a patch of dead Gargun. It was odd. They continued, and found an entrance to Kiraz. As they were being chased toward it, they found a back door that had been blasted open, amazingly enough. They explored inside, and found the chambers of the king. Morgan was there. They spent the night. Bevan and Morgan talked-about what, she can’t say. It turned out he was the one who had blasted the doors open. He had his women with him at that point – at least 4, maybe 5. Morgan has people in most of the major towns. He is concerned with Tharda, but not in any official basis. There may be a connection between Escalus and Morgan; they have some of the same women, like Sadao and Rhonna. It's been at least two years since she saw him.

Peonu 15-17, 730

We leave for the muster on 15 Peonu. The Nephen flows to the Kald, so we are going downstream to Ternua, and then walking upstream to Tashal. The Fenlanders have some real boats, and Bevan borrows one.

Dascomb comes with us; he is Bevan’s bodyguard.

Ternua is a small keep at the confluence of the Kald and Nephen. We stay at the inn. The next day we proceed to Tashal. We stay at Sir Ilken’s. Mrs. Baum gives Bevan a letter from Sir Auram, asking her to go North and investigate the current situation and any Jarin resistance. The group decides to go with her. Bevan intends to take horses.

The party goes to Pesera’s to cash Theron’s letter of credit. The shares come to 640d for Ardeth, Arlen and Dwilith. Dwilith takes 2 crowns, Arlen 1 crown and 320d, and Ardeth also takes 1 crown and the pennies.

For dinner, Bevan and Arlen go to the Iron Bell, with Ardeth going to the Seven Stars. Rosak of Kass comes over and she greets Bevan. Arlen pays 44d total for dinner. Ardeth goes to talk to Byris, who says he should go to Gedan. There is bandit activity around there, which is said by some to be Jarin patriots, although Byris disagrees. There are barrows around Gedan. Byris saw no sign of imminent Jarin uprising. Ardeth spends 6d. As he returns to Sir Ilken's house, he suspects he is being followed. He returns to Ilken’s without know if that was so or who it might have been.

We spend time horse shopping, ultimately purchasing from Kirl, ostler to the Tower. Bevan pays half. The rest of us chip in 272.75d each. Mrs. Baum puts together some food for us. Everyone gets a good night’s sleep.

The party sets out north. Ardeth’s spell misfires and makes Dwilith hyperactive. Dwilith runs alongside the horses until it wears off. We ride to the town of Herv, and thence to Gardiren. The inn there is the Tusk and Spear, Pullman of Caddon, proprietor. It is decorated with hunting trophies and equipment. The innkeeper warns the party away from the north. There are Taelda and barbarians before Noron, and Noron is also very dangerous. The innkeeper mentions that the local earl is with the King in Olokand, much to his chagrin. The Earl is lazy, a drunkard, and a libertine. Each room is 4d, and 1d per horse with dinner included.

Peonu 21-23, 730

The next day the party crosses the bridge and resumes its northward journey. In a half day we reach Tonot, the last Kaldoric settlement. Food for a week is purchased, and we go into the wilderness.
Rakir falls off his horse, hurting his foot. Some persuasion is required to make him get back on. Night falls, and we make camp. Bevan, Dascomb, and Imarë go out to hunt. Bevan gets a deer. There is leftover meat. The party sleeps.

The Gargun strike in the night. Imarë stabs two in the scrotum. Sir Arlen whacks the head off another. Dascomb crushes the skull of one. But wounds are taken, and Arlen is hit in the belly for 12 points. The leader is killed by Bevan and they flee.

In the morning, Bevan identifies the corpses as Gargu-Hyeka, the most common of the orcs. The party pulls up camp and goes down the road. The next day passes uneventfully. Night passes without incident.

The next morning we come to the Kald’s upper reaches. We are stopped by a group of six giants. They ask what our business is, and what tribute we will pay. The group mentions they know Theron and are taken to see Noron himself, who is quite pleased to see any friends of Theron’s. The party is feasted. Noron has a strong dislike of Gargun. He thinks the Jarin should overthrow the Ivinians. He says Gedan is inhabited by Jarin rebels, and that 10 years ago in Lorkin was “the time of death” Ivinians are worshippers of Sarajin.

Ten years ago, in winter, most Ivinians fled or disappeared, and come spring they returned and acted as if nothing had changed, but it had; the Ivinians weren’t so cocky anymore. 30 years ago, the Jarin actually managed to conquer the castle, but the Ivinians got it back.

At end of session the party is still in Noron.
